Introduced some month ago, oFono has now the capability to emulate modem!

The goal of this feature is to help implementing features like DialUp Networking, Bluetooth HandsFree / HeadSet Profile...

oFono can now send/receive AT command, handle them, and send the appropriate request to the connected driver, whatever the underlying modem is an AT one or not.

DUN support is nearly completed, and you can have an overview of AT command support here doc/dialup-command-set.txt, and an architecture overview here doc/dialup-overview.txt

DUN Bluetooth server

Does this software make it possible to setup a DUN Bluetooth server on a Linux machine?

I need a setup which is the reverse of the "normal" Dial-up usage.

In most cases, the PC acts as a DUN client, making use of the Internet connection from a phone with network access. There are plenty of descriptions on the net of how to do this.

However, in my case, the Linux PC does already have an Internet connection. But the external hardware device that I have does not have any network access. However, it does have DUN client capabilities, and it is possible to connect that hardware device to a DUN-enabled phone. The hardware device does not support PAN, so that is not an option.

Now, I would like to do the same with the PC, so the Linux PC acts as/emulates a Bluetooth DUN server. (No actual "dial-up" will be performed, since the PC is using a 3G connection.)

Is this possible to do with the modem emulator?

Also, is this a use-case that has been used during the development of the modem emulator?

If this is possible, this is great, since that would solve my current problems.

Hi,

If I understand correctly, you want to share the Internet connection of a Linux PC to a DUN-capable device.

This will work. But you will have to install and configure oFono, ConnMan and BlueZ on your Linux PC.

If you got any trouble, I will try to explain you how to deal with this.
